Watercolour monsters

Nice new project I am working on together with Thai-Australian artist Vipoo Srivilasa and Japanese-Australian artist Shin Koyama, I've met both in China. We are making Exquisite corpse (Cadavre Exquis) watercolour paintings. We send each other the paintings in the mail. Each artists paints the head, legs or head of a monster. These collaborative paintings are going to be exhibited in Bangkok this summer!
The picture shows some of my unfishished monsters ready to be send to the next artist.
More information will follow.

Dragons of Ming

I just finished sculpting on my " De Draken van Ming" "The Dragons of Ming" vase in the new Dragon year. Actually it is not a real vase anymore because you can't put anything in it, but at least it started as one. Since visiting Jingdezhen, China in 2010 I study on the depiction of dragons on especially Ming dynasty porcelain.
Now drying, firing, a LOT of glazing, firing again....
I will post the result on this blog.

Der bärtige Kaiser

Work in progress on a large Bartmannkrug, Bellarmine jug or in Dutch Baardmankruik with the title "Der bärtige Kaiser". The Jug is inspired by 17th and 18th century German Bartmannkrugs that were made around Cologne in western Germany. Even in the Netherlands archaeologists often find these stoneware jugs (or the shards) at excavations (I have some of these shards in my collection as well!). The glaze on my Kaiser Jug has a bronze appearance, a special glaze with some unhealthy oxides in the recipe.
